The Federation of Bushwalking Clubs (New South Wales) was established in 1932 with 10 bushwalking clubs and has a long and illustrious history of bushwalking exploration and conservation. Today the Confederation of Bushwalking Clubs NSW Inc. represents 63 NSW and ACT bushwalking clubs with 9,000 members. Our clubs provide a large range of outdoor activities graded for all levels of fitness and age. Included are day, overnight and extended bushwalks, canyoning and abseiling, canoeing and kayaking and social activities. Some clubs provide training in bushwalking and navigation skills.

Many clubs are centred in Sydney and Canberra and walk in National Parks, Reserves and State Forests encompassing mountain, bush, rain forest and desert areas like the World Heritage Blue Mountains National Park, Snowy Mountains, Wollemi, Royal, Barrington Tops, Morton and Kanangra-Boyd National Parks and ACT's Namadgi National Park. These are just a few of the many notable National Parks in New South Wales.

Confederation provides both Public Liability and Personal Accident insurance cover to our clubs together with our Risk Management Policies. We also provide Internet web hosting to our member clubs. Confederation produces a quarterly, full colour magazine " The Bushwalker" with paid advertising space. The Confederation via Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad provides a community service for remote area bush search and rescue using experienced bushwalkers.
